The show opens with Vickie Guerrero and Brad Maddox in the ring who tell the audience that they are there to make sure that Big Show would not crash the show. Daniel Bryan comes down and says that Big Show is here and Show's music hits. He doesn't show up; Bryan says he was just playing with them and he introduces Cody Rhodes and Goldust. Those three are booked against The Shield for the main event.
Thoughts: Maybe it's just me, but I thought this promo was weak. Nothing against any of those who took part in it and the booking for the main event is something to look forward to, but it felt like it was written at the last minute. Bryan just randomly introduced Cody and Goldust for no reason and from then you just saw it coming. Meh. At least we get an awesome main event!
The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) defeats The Miz & Kofi Kingston when Luke Harper hits the discus clothesline on Kofi. Post-match, Bray Wyatt comes to the ring and tells Miz that he’s going to take his world away.
Thoughts: Not a bad match! I like the booking in the continuation of this feud and for a first match, these four guys delivered. Harper and Rowan are two impressive big guys like we haven’t seen them in the long time and I predict that they will be a threat to the tag team titles very soon. Bray Wyatt delivered a killer promo as he usually does. He seems to have the power to make all of his feuds interesting. Oh, and was that a clothesline or what?
Brie Bella defeats AJ Lee with the Facebuster.
Thoughts: Pretty good divas match. Brie Bella seems to improve with every single match. I read somewhere that WWE management were disappointed in the outcome of her babyface turn, but if you ask me, it’s only a matter of time and patience with the building of her character. AJ is a wonderful divas champion and she, once again, made Brie Bella look very good. Good chemistry was shown between these two women.
Big Show comes to the ring with a ticket autographed by Daniel Bryan. Brad Maddox and Vickie Guerrero come down to make sure he leaves but Big Show K.O. punches Maddox and heads up the ramp.
Thoughts: Solid segment. It’s great when they involve major storylines in B-shows and that’s what happening here. Great promo work from Big Show once again as he seems to be delivering some of the best acting work of his career. Also, Brad Maddox sold that punch like a boss. The only thing that bothers me is how Big Show just comes and goes like he’s still a superstar, yet he’s supposed to be fired. Why is he let inside the building in the first place? Anyways...
CM Punk defeats Big E Langston with the G.T.S. Afterwards, Paul Heyman leads Ryback and Curtis Axel to the ring to attack Punk but Big E Langston comes back in the ring and evens the odds.
Thoughts: Very good work by both these men from start to finish made for an awesome match. The babyface turn is the best move for Big E Langston’s career and I am happy WWE finally went through with it! The potential this guy has is impressive and I see big things for him from here on out. CM Punk delivered another great TV match, as usual.
Alberto Del Rio gets interviewed in the ring by Josh Matthews. He tells us how Cena is the ultimate gringo and how much he hates him. He says he’s going to beat him at Hell in a Cell to bring his ego down and proceeds to lock the armbar on Matthews to send a message to Cena.
Thoughts: Let me put it to you this way: the first time I watched SmackDown!, this is the part where I fell asleep. Alberto Del Rio is a great wrestler, one of the best in the WWE and all of his title defenses have been good to great matches, but there’s one thing that makes his title reign so boring and that’s his lack of personality. He is terrible at cutting promos and he should stay as far away as possible from a microphone. I look forward to his match with Cena at Hell in a Cell, though!
The Usos defeat the Real Americans with a superkick/superfly splash combination and a distraction from Los Matadores where El Torito gored Zeb Colter outside the ring.
Thoughts: Obviously this was a good match considering the skills that both of these teams possess, but I don’t understand why this feud is booked to start one week before the pay-per-view, especially after watching the matadores squash 3MB like 5 times. I’m excited to see the match that culminates from these feuds because they are four great athletes. As for the Usos, they continue their streak and people are finally starting to take them seriously, which is practically a miracle considering how much they’ve been buried in the past years. Tag team wrestling is becoming more and more featured in WWE programming and that’s a great thing!
Randy Orton cuts a promo while Daniel Bryan is in the ring, telling him he will be the new face of the WWE at Hell In A Cell.
Thoughts: Randy Orton definitely does his best work as a heel. This feud is reaching its boiling point and it must end at Hell In A Cell.
Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes & Goldust defeat The Shield when Daniel Bryan hits the high knee on Ambrose. The show ends with the babyfaces celebrating.
Thoughts: Great main event, as expected; these men all work extremely well together and the fact that they are the center of attention of practically every TV show is a wonderful thing for WWE’s present and its future. It’s with matches like these that you realize the great amount of progress WWE has made in the last years. Goldust seems to be in the best shape of his career and this angle with his brother Cody is awesome. Great work by all these men!
Overall, I didn't feel like there was one dull moment except for that Alberto Del Rio promo. We were treated to very good entertainment with this edition of Friday Night SmackDown; very enjoyable show. Thanks for reading!
