The same as last week, this television taping will feature two matches from ROH's latest iPPV. The Ring of Honor management team wanted to bring the ENTIRE ROH World Title tournament to television so this show will highlight the two semifinal matches of that tournament.
As I said last week, if you are a fan of ROH and have been following the tournament then you already know the results of the whole tournament. With that being said, I have read nothing but great things about the two matches that will be presented to us tonight!
~Adam Cole vs. Tomasso Ciampa: Semi-Final Match #1~
Adam Cole wins the match after locking Ciampa into a Figure Four Leglock and proceeding to kick Ciampa until Ciampa is out - Cole wins by KO.
ML: WHAT A GREAT MATCH! If the Steen and Elgin deliver like I know they can then this iPPV must have been one of the best shows ROH has put on all year! Ciampa and Cole had amazing chemisrty and balance throughout the match which produced one of the better matches I've seen all year. The story-telling behind this match was amazing to watch and produced gold. If there was any doubt in anyone's mind that Ciampa wasn't ready for the World Title scene in ROH, they don't have to look any further than this match to see that there should be no doubt. Adam Cole has always been the dark horse of this tournament and with this victory, he has proven himself worthy of the ROH World Title just as much as anyone else.
~Michael Elgin vs. Kevin Steen: Semi-Final Match #2~
Michael Elgin picks up the victory after Kevin Steen taps to the Crossface - that was applied for the third time.
ML: Simply wow. Wow. Wow. I can't even put into terms how good this match was. It blew their last attempt of a match, when Steen was ROH World Champion, out of the water and they somehow were able to one up the Ciampa and Cole match from earlier in the show. Steen showcased a wide array of ability in this match that was impressive. I continue to be mesmerized by the amount of talent and athletic abilty this man possesses considering his size and build. Elgin is just a mind blowing talent. His ability to mesh styles and talent with anyone that's put in front of him is something special that can't be taught. There is no doubt in my mind that both guys are destined for huge things in this business.
~Final Thoughts~
ML: So there you have it! Two excellent matches and a GREAT television show produced by ROH. The finals of the tournament might not surprise anyone because, in my opinion, after the brackets were revealed, it was a pretty obvious final for the tourney. With that being said, it doesn't take anything away from this tournament at all! This tournament has provided excellent matches and even better storytelling throughout the whole process! ROH's uncanny knack for telling some of the best stories in the ring is unrivaled, in my opinion.
Stay tuned for my next review to see how the Michael Elgin and Adam Cole match was!
